OUR FOUNDER



Chris Hicks is the founder of the Baltimore Urban Book Festival (BUBF) celebrating African-American literature. The Baltimore Urban Book Festival premiered April, 10, 2011 at the The Fredrick Douglass-Isaac Myers Maritime Park in Baltimore, Md. The Baltimore Urban Book Fest (BUBF) was formulated to bring awareness to our communities through reading, learning and building stronger families.
Chris continues to be involved in nonprofit efforts and has served as well as donated to various charity organizations such as the House of Ruth and Play Kidz Learning Center. A portion of the proceeds from the Baltimore Urban BooK Festival were donated to The Ben Carson’s Reading Rooms Program which provides funding and support to local schools so that they can create a nurturing environment for a child to feel safe and secure as they develop their reading skills. Proceeds also went to the Park A Program of the Living Classroom Foundation, in support of their Voyage of Exploration, a science, technology, engineering, and math program (STEM).
Chris Hicks is an established author who runs his own publishing company, Universal Publishing LLC., which is presently located in Baltimore, Maryland. Chris has used his varied educational background to build a distinguished business. He has written and published his first book, THINK VOLUME 1. (A Young Adult’s Guide to Successful Relationships) His book was written with young adult men in mind, with step by step advice on how to build stronger, positive and healthier family relationships.


He is an active role model in the community, as well as a volunteer for Big Sister, Big Brother of Central Maryland. Chris, who describes himself as a classic overachiever, has garnered an impressive list of community involvement activities such as being a member of The Urban League Young Professionals, who targets education and the youth in our communities,
Chris is currently on a national book tour in support and efforts to promote his new book THINK Volume 1. (A Young Adult’s Guide to Successful Relationships)
In addition, he has been prominently featured in various publications such as Young Brother Online and Urban Twist. He has been featured at the National Black Book Festival in Houston TX, (May 21-23 2010) and the Harlem Book Festival, Harlem NY (July 17, 2010)


One of Chris’s biggest goals is to improve our communities by uplifting young women and men and showing them that it’s ok to be positive, respectful, strong and successful. In his new book THINK VOLUME 1, he stresses the fact of understanding the sacrifices and hard work it takes to build a solid relationship. He has experienced first hand the harsh realities of a broken engagement and relationships. As a single father of a 5 year old daughter, his vision is to instill family values so that the broken cycle will not continue.
